City of Toronto – Press Release

The official countdown to the 24th annual Toronto Challenge presented by MonsterMortgage.ca begins

Today, the City officially started the countdown to the Toronto Challenge, presented by MonsterMortgage.ca. On hand to help with the kick-off were event sponsors, Nick Ametrano, Vice-President, MonsterMortgage.ca and Puneet Khanna, Vice President, Sales & Marketing at Medical Pharmacies Group Limited.

The Toronto Challenge is the premier annual fundraising event for the City of Toronto’s Long-Term Care Homes & Services. Funds raised through the event help by enhancing the quality of life of seniors by supporting community outings for residents of long-term care homes, recreation and entertainment activities, community programs, enhanced palliative care support, large print books and much more.

“The Toronto Challenge has been supporting seniors and vulnerable Torontonians for 24 years and counting,” said Reg Paul, General Manager, Toronto Long-Term Care Homes & Services. “This event is truly a success story of what can be accomplished when corporate and community sponsors join forces with the City to make a difference in the lives of Toronto’s seniors.”

“MonsterMortgage.ca keeps supporting this event year after year because we believe this fun family event is truly making a difference in the lives of so many, particularly seniors who have given so much to make Toronto a great city,” said Nick Ametrano.

“Medical Pharmacies is proud to be a part of this event which supports programs across Toronto, ensuring seniors maintain their health and wellness,” said Puneet Khanna.

Clients of the Aphasia Institute, a community partner of the Toronto Challenge, put on a dance performance to Footloose to show their support. The Aphasia Institute has participated in the Toronto Challenge for the past 18 years. The funds raised are used to support programs and services for people with aphasia, as well for Aphasia research and education.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday, June 14 at Metro Hall, 55 John Street, and includes the MonsterMortgage.ca 5K run, the Medical Pharmacies 5k walk and 1K fun walk. All funds raised will be used to enhance the quality of life for seniors served by over 40 community agencies and the City’s own Long-Term Care Homes & Services division. The first 2,000 people will receive a T-shirt and all participants will have a chance to win prizes.
