Corporal Klinger (actor Jamie Farr) salutes seniors as they prepare for the Toronto Challenge presented by MonsterMortgage.ca

May 27, 2011

Actor Jamie Farr joined Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti (Ward 7 York West), Chair of the City of Toronto’s Community Development and Recreation Committee, myself, Louise Pan from the Nissan Canada Foundation, representatives from the City of Toronto’s Long-Term Care Homes and Services division and community agencies to promote the Toronto Challenge presented by MonsterMortgage.ca. The event was held at Lakeshore Lodge.

This year’s Toronto Challenge presented by MonsterMortgage.ca will be held on June 12. The event features a 5-km run, 5-km walk and 1-km walk starting at Metro Hall. This annual fundraising event benefits the City’s ten long-term care homes and more than 50 community agencies that provide services and programs to seniors. Participants can choose which organization to support, with funds raised going toward outings, recreation programs, performances, activities, large print books, garden paths, entertainment equipment and many other amenities that enhance quality of life for Toronto’s seniors.

People of all ages and backgrounds come from neighbourhoods across the city to participate in the Toronto Challenge presented by MonsterMortgage.ca. By walking, running or volunteering at the Challenge, you are providing joy in the lives of our residents. I, along with Mayor Ford, encourage everyone to take the Toronto Challenge on June 12. Let’s show the residents of the City’s long-term care homes that we care,” said Councillor Mammoliti.

MonsterMortgage.ca provides people with the opportunity to own a home. The Toronto Challenge provides people who are no longer able to live on their own with the extras that turn a place to live into a home. We are very proud to be the presenting sponsor.

Farr, a senior himself, talked about his career and his experiences as an active 76-year-old who’s currently starring in the play “Tuesdays with Morrie” at Stage West.

The Toronto Challenge offers something for everyone with prizes for participants in all age categories. The Nissan Canada Foundation, sponsor of the 5-km walk, is supplying an all-electric Nissan LEAF as the pace car for this year’s Toronto Challenge.
